At a glance
Morocco is the most visited country on the African continent for a reason. Its blend of ancient cities like Marrakech, Fez, and Casablanca, vibrant souks, and stunning landscapes such as the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert make it an irresistible destination.
In the post-war era, Morocco was considered to be more gay-friendly than most Western countries. LGBTQA+ writers like Joe Orton found a welcoming environment in Tangier, and he chronicled his adventures in his steamy diaries. That being said, homosexuality is still technically illegal in Morocco but these laws don’t really apply to tourists. As with all Muslim countries, public displays of affection are best avoided, whether you’re straight or gay.
With its growing popularity among LGBTQA+ travelers, Morocco has firmly established itself as a must-visit destination that deserves a spot on your bucket list. Here’s our guide to the most gay-friendly luxury hotels in Morocco, where you expect a very warm welcome.
